Electrogenic launches ‘drop-in’ plug n play conversion kit for Porsche 911

Electrogenic, a British EV technology firm known for its classic car EV conversions, has installed its “drop-in” conversion kit in a customer’s classic Porsche 911.

This “plug-and-play” conversion features the company’s proprietary EV powertrain technology, which future-proofs classic cars while combining performance, reliability, and usability.

The kits are offered alongside Electrogenic’s bespoke conversions and are designed to be easy to install and entirely reversible. The Porsche 911 conversion is one option in the company’s “drop-in” kit range, offered under Electrogenic’s recently expanded ‘Powered by Electrogenic’ technology arm.

The kits are designed to breathe new life into iconic models like the Land Rover, Jaguar E-Type, and Triumph Stag, future-proofing these models.

Electrogenic has already converted a number of classic cars to electric power, including Land Rovers, Jaguar E-Types, and Triumph Stags. The new drop-in kits make it easier than ever to convert a classic car to electric power, with the kits being designed to be simple to install by a qualified technician.

The drop-in kits are also entirely reversible, making it possible to return a classic car to its original, petrol-powered state if desired.

The first customer car to be fitted with the new drop-in kit is a stunning Irish Green Porsche 911. Originally a 1985 G-Body, the car has been backdated by its owner to evoke the iconic 2.7 RS. The electrified classic now combines sensational, clean performance with excellent everyday useability and total reliability.

The E62 kit fitted to the Porsche 911 features the latest 160kW water-cooled motor, which sends 215bhp and 230lb/ft of torque to the rear wheels through a neatly integrated single-speed, fixed ratio transmission. The result is a 0-60mph time of less than 5 seconds, which is not dissimilar to a modern 911.

For those seeking even more performance, Electrogenic also offers an E62s package, which features a 240kW motor that delivers 320bhp and 310lb/ft of torque. With a 0-60mph time of just 3.8 seconds, the E62s conversion gives the classic 911 eye-opening, modern supercar levels of performance.

Both the E62 and E62s conversions come with 62kWh of brand-new, OEM-grade batteries, which are densely packed together using Electrogenic’s ingenious mounting system.

The batteries are located low down in the car, where the fuel tank was previously located, as well as in the engine bay, improving weight distribution compared to the standard car. Both conversions offer 180-200+ miles of range in real-world driving, and the increase in mass is kept to a minimum thanks to the use of lightweight components.

The drop-in kits also come with modern features that a driver might expect, such as optimised Eco, Sport, and Traffic profiles, as well as energy-recouping regen for the brakes and throttle.

The settings are infinitely configurable and can be tailored to an owner’s specific requirements. The original instruments in the 911 have been repurposed to display vital information such as range and charge speeds, while the cabin is kept warm with a super-efficient, discreetly installed, electric heater.

Electrogenic’s drop-in kits are compatible with both G-Body and 964 generation 911s and come with rapid CCS charging as standard, which takes around 50 minutes for a full charge.

The kits offer a convenient way to convert a classic car to electric power, future-proofing it and providing it with clean, sustainable performance. With the launch of its ‘Powered by Electrogenic’ technology arm, the company is now able to offer these kits to customers around the world, taking its business to a whole new level.
