China automaker Chery defied global market trend by clocking a very healthy growth of 28 per cent in 2022, outpacing the average of 2.1 per cent.
A significant portion of this growth came from the export market where they shipped 452,000 units, making it China’s top passenger car exporter for 20 consecutive years, accounting for one out of every seven vehicles exported by China in 2022.
There is no doubt that China is very eager to take a big chunk of the global automotive market and the local brands are highly motivated to make this push and have been known to make big investments in technology and human resources.
This pattern of huge investment marks a typical Chinese effort and in Chery’s case they are simply riding a similar wave in the automotive industry which is also moving very quickly into new areas of innovation.
Among the key areas for innovation in the automotive industry is Connected, Autonomous, Sharing and Electric (CASE).

Cher is also putting focus on several fronts including their Q-POWER series, the Lion intelligent cabin, and the EEA 4.0 electronic and electrical architecture. These technological achievements have contributed to the rapid growth of Chery Group’s sales, making its products more competitive in each market segment.
Chery Q-Power is a series of gasoline engines designed to meet China’s National VI emissions standards and are used in a variety of models, such as the Arrizo 5, Arrizo 6, and Tiggo 7.
The engines come in different displacements, including 1.0L, 1.5L, and 1.6L, and are paired with both manual and automatic transmissions.
The company has recruited top global experts in various fields, such as styling, chips, software, operating systems, and intelligent cabins, as well as establishing a team of chief scientists.

Chery currently boasts over 10,000 engineers and scientists, and this year, the company aims to achieve even greater success by increasing its market share and other indicators to become a world-class enterprise.
The is also making efforts to enter the EV market and while we don’t have clear data on their current share of the global electric vehicle market,we can see a few new products being launched as part of its effort to transition to new energy vehicles.
Their first all-electric SUV, the Exeed E3 was launched in 2021 and it was designed to compete in the mid-size SUV segment.
They have also developed a range of EV technologies, such as a battery swapping system and a 800V ultra-fast charging system, which are expected to be used in future EV models.
