Volkswagen has made a new and improved air conditioning system for their new car, the ID.7. This new system cools or heats the inside of the car faster before the driver even starts their journey.
It works by using special electronic air vents that move the air around the car as soon as the driver comes close with the key. The new air conditioning system is also smart and can understand voice commands and pay attention to the position of the sun and the driver’s preferences.
This makes the inside of the car more comfortable and sets a new standard for cars in its class.
While they claim the new car will have smart AC, their decision to ditch heat pumps for conventional air conditioning system is seen as a less than smart move by some.
Heat pumps are generally more energy efficient than traditional air conditioners or heaters because they use a small amount of electricity to move heat from one place to another, rather than generating heat directly. This means that they can provide the same amount of heating or cooling as a traditional system while using less energy.
In cooling mode, a heat pump works like a traditional air conditioner. It absorbs heat from inside the building and releases it outside. In heating mode, a heat pump works in reverse by absorbing heat from the outside air or ground and releasing it inside the building.
One of the most efficient heat pumps is the air-source heat pump, which extracts heat from the air outside. This type of heat pump can be up to 300% more efficient than electric resistance heating and can reduce energy consumption and costs.
Heat pumps are also more efficient in moderate climates. In extremely cold weather, heat pumps may not work as well and a backup heating source may be needed.
Heat pumps can be a good idea in electric cars as they can help to increase the range and efficiency of the vehicle.
In electric cars, the traditional heating system would use the battery to heat the cabin, which would drain the battery and reduce the range of the vehicle.
A heat pump, on the other hand, can extract heat from the outside air or from the waste heat generated by the powertrain, which means it doesn’t have to rely solely on the battery to heat the cabin.
This can improve the range of the vehicle as less energy is needed from the battery to heat the cabin.
Heat pumps can also improve the efficiency of the vehicle, as they can provide heating and cooling with less energy consumption than traditional systems.
This can help to increase the range of the vehicle, especially in colder climates where the heating system is in use for a significant portion of the year.
However, it’s worth noting that heat pumps in electric cars are still relatively new technology and have not yet been widely adopted. The efficiency of the heat pump also depends on the specific design and implementation of the system.

So, how’s the new A/C system int eh ID.7 so smart?
Apparently it cools or heats the inside of the car before the passengers get in. There are smart air vents in the car quickly distribute the air throughout the car when the driver approaches with their key.
The new system also reacts to voice commands and takes into account the position of the sun and individual user preferences.
This new system will make the inside of the car more comfortable for passengers. The ID.7 will be available in 2023.
