Proton Global Services, a subsidiary of Proton Edar, has appointed Industrial Laboratories as a supplier of solar photovoltaic systems.
This move is aimed at expanding the use of solar power among Proton’s network of dealers and vendors. Industial Laboratories is Proton’s second solar panel supplier.
The appointment is in line with Proton’s efforts to increase energy sustainability and lower carbon emissions, in order to improve its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) score.
At the recent signing ceremony, representatives from Proton Global Services and Industrial Laboratories discussed their plans to collaborate and increase the adoption of solar energy in Malaysia.
Proton Global Services, which operates in a variety of business areas, also focuses on energy optimization and sustainable energy solutions for Proton.
Industrial Labs, on the other hand, is a prominent supplier and service provider of renewable energy solutions in Malaysia, with a track record of projects in Southeast Asia.
“New energy is a key business area for PGS and in addition to promoting and implementing the use of solar energy among our dealers and vendors, we have also established a solar farm at Proton’s plant in Tanjung Malim.
This farm has the capacity to produce 12MWp and has the potential to save Proton up to RM3.5 million per year in energy costs over 25 years,” said Lee Yeet Chuan, CEO of PGS.
“With the addition of Industrial Labs as our second PV system supplier, we are looking to accelerate the adoption of solar power in the Proton network of dealers and vendors in 2023, in order to further reduce carbon emissions for the company.”

Shamsul Azhar Bin Zainuddin, Co-founder and Director of Industrial Labs, signed on behalf of the company during the ceremony.
He highlighted the broader goals that could be achieved through increased adoption of solar energy.
“The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) held in Egypt last year outlined the steps that need to be taken to minimize global temperature increases compared to pre-industrial levels.
Decarbonizing energy production is one of the initiatives being promoted, which is why we are thrilled to collaborate with PGS. Promoting clean and renewable energy such as solar is a step in the right direction,” he said.
On a national level, Malaysia has committed to becoming a carbon neutral nation by 2050. As such, manufacturers like Proton will play a crucial role in reducing the country’s carbon emission levels.
“As Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) parameters become increasingly important each year, all companies must explore ways to improve their scores in these areas.
However, as a national automotive brand, Proton also has a responsibility to help Malaysia reach its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
That’s why we will continue to promote more green initiatives within the company and to our ecosystem for the foreseeable future,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy CEO of Proton.
