CATL and Chery join forces

Chery Group, a Chinese car manufacturer, has signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the world’s largest lithium-ion battery manufacturer for electric vehicles (EVs).

The agreement involves collaboration in areas such as products, commerce, market promotion, and commercial information resources, as well as battery supply and technical cooperation on passenger vehicles.

Both parties will also explore mass transit, EIC technology integration of new energy and battery-swapping for buses, logistics vehicles, heavy trucks and electric ships. Chery has already made significant advances in new energy technology, having developed a holistic R&D system, applied for over 900 new energy patents and obtained over 600 patents.

In the first 10 months of 2022, Chery sold over 210,000 new energy vehicles (+182% year-on-year), far surpassing the overall industry growth rate. The companies will continue to promote the sustainable development of the new energy industry and the popularisation of electric vehicles.

Through the strategic collaboration, Chery and CATL aim to lead the development of the automotive industry and boost the transition to electric vehicles.
